Conti Federal is currently performing the construction and renovation of a Combat Rescue Helicopter training and simulator facility to support the 56th Rescue Squadron at Aviano Air Base in Aviano, Italy. This project involves the construction of an 870-square-meter addition to Building 7300 —an essential squadron operations facility—combined with extensive renovations to establish a state-of-the-art training environment tailored for the Combat Rescue Helicopter mission.

The project scope includes the comprehensive renovation of the existing structure, requiring the selective demolition and reconfiguration of exterior walls, windows, doors, utilities, and the roofing system to accommodate the new layout. The addition will feature a primary operational flight trainer and simulator bay, multipurpose mission planning and computer training rooms, as well as maintenance and utility areas.  These spaces are designed to meet the rigorous demands of the Combat Rescue Helicopter program, providing a high-fidelity, mission-ready training environment for personnel.

The expansion will be built on reinforced concrete foundations with a cement plaster stucco exterior, complemented by a durable clay tile roofing system that matches the existing structure. One key feature of the simulator bay will be the installation of an overhead crane to facilitate the movement and positioning of simulator equipment. Conti Federal will also ensure that the new structure is fully compatible with the existing facility, integrating seamlessly with the operational environment.

Supporting facilities will include essential utilities, pavements, and site improvements. A thorough unexploded ordnance (UXO) survey will be conducted to ensure safety, and passive force protection measures will be integrated to safeguard the facility.  Additionally, passive force protection measures will be incorporated into the design to safeguard the facility, and stormwater management systems utilizing low-impact development (LID) techniques will be implemented to minimize environmental impact and maintain regulatory compliance.

This expansion and renovation project will provide a fully equipped, functional, and secure environment for the CRH simulator, enabling advanced training for personnel. The upgraded building will not only support the Combat Rescue Helicopter mission but will also enhance operational readiness with modern, high-performance training spaces.  Conti Federal remains committed to delivering this project with the highest standards of precision, safety, and quality, ensuring the facility’s enduring success in support of critical mission objectives.
