Hurricanes Irma and Maria hit in late 2017 causing substantial structural damage to the USVI National Guard facilities. To return the facilities to working conditions, Conti Federal led this design-build project on the geographically isolated island cluster.
Conti Federal is providing full design and renovations/reconstruction on 13 different buildings at 4 different base locations on both islands. The major work scope entails the removal, disposal, and replacement of modified bitumen built-up roofs and standing seam metal roofs measuring approximately 160,000 square feet in total area. The scope also requires the replacement of roof flashing, roof vents, and drains and gutters and downspouts. Additional major work at some facilities include complete interior demolition and disposal with full interior reconstruction of walls, floors, and ceilings.
Other repair items include removal and replacement of overhead doors, hangar doors, interior and exterior doors, windows, HVAC and plumbing systems, electrical systems, fire alarm systems, and other activities to fully restore the buildings. All roof coverings and openings repaired or replaced under this contract are required to meet High Velocity Wind Zone requirements for 174-mph velocities (Category 5 Hurricane).
