Conti Federal Services is currently performing a $4.2 million task order contract for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Kansas City District for remedial action at the Unimatic Manufacturing Corporation Superfund Site, Operable Unit 2 (OU2), in Fairfield, Essex County, New Jersey. The project is being executed under the Pre-placed Remedial Action Contracts (PRAC) and will address critical environmental issues in accordance with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and the site’s Record of Decision (ROD).
The scope of work includes excavation and off-site disposal of sediments contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and pesticides. Following removal, the excavated areas will be backfilled with clean soil, and the site will undergo wetland and overall site restoration to support long-term ecological recovery.
Unimatic began aluminum die casting operations at the site in 1955, continuing until 2001. During its operation, molds were treated with PCB-containing lubricants, which over time contaminated both the facility and surrounding environment. A leak in the process water wastewater piping system allowed pollutants to migrate into the soil, groundwater, and adjacent sediment, prompting federal cleanup action.

The firm most recently collaborated with USACE Kansas City on a successful groundwater treatment project in Hopewell Junction, New York, delivering clean drinking water to over 300 local residents and businesses.
