Scope
Conti Federal Services is currently performing a $19.9 million task order for the remedial action of the Salford Quarry Superfund Site, located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The project is for contract for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 3, awarded under the Remediation Environmental Services (RES) suite under the EPA’s Remedial Action Framework (RAF) multiple award contract.
The three-acre site, designated as Operable Unit 1 (OU1), contains legacy contamination from decades of industrial use. In the 1950s, the quarry served as a disposal site for industrial, commercial, and residential waste, including fly ash cinders from a nearby coal-fired power plant. Between the 1960s and 1980s, a tile manufacturing facility disposed of glaze wash-up sludge, fired and unfired scrap tiles, and sediment from settling ponds into the quarry. Although the dump site was closed in 1982, later investigations identified ongoing groundwater contamination caused by the buried waste.
Conti Federal’s scope of work includes the installation of a subsurface perimeter wall and construction of an impermeable cap to contain the contamination and prevent further environmental impact. All work is being performed in accordance with EPA standards and is focused on reducing risks to both the environment and public health.
This project builds on Conti Federal’s long-standing experience in environmental remediation, particularly across the northeastern United States. The company is currently leading remediation projects at the Burnt Fly Bog Superfund Site in Monmouth County, New Jersey, and the Unimatic Manufacturing Superfund Site in Fairfield, New Jersey.
