Scope
Conti Federal successfully completed the renovation of Building 639 at Naval Air Station II Sigonella in Sicily, Italy. Awarded by Jacobs Engineering and the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Europe Africa Central (EURAFCENT), this design-bid-build project delivered a fully modernized and operational facility.
The project encompassed the reconfiguration and renovation of approximately 50,000 square feet of interior space and 35,000 square feet of exterior improvements. Work was executed within an active military installation, requiring detailed phasing and coordination to minimize disruptions to ongoing mission activities. Conti Federal implemented extensive safety, security, and environmental controls in compliance with both U.S. Department of Defense requirements and host nation regulations.
This effort included comprehensive upgrades to mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems. Conti Federal replaced backup power generation systems, improved lighting infrastructure inside and outside the facility, and modernized the building’s grounding and lightning protection systems. The HVAC system was replaced and rebalanced to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort. Elevator systems were refurbished, and fire protection was enhanced with a new smoke detection system and upgraded sprinklers throughout. Plumbing systems were replaced, and the building roof was fully reconstructed.
Interior and exterior architectural improvements were also executed, including selective demolition, repair, and replacement of walls, finishes, and door systems to meet operational, safety, and accessibility standards. The facility now provides Commander Task Force 67 and associated personnel with a secure, high-performance workspace aligned with current mission requirements.
This project reflects Conti Federal’s ongoing commitment to delivering secure, mission-ready infrastructure in support of U.S. and Allied operations throughout Europe.
