Hopewell Precision Superfund Site Earns Award of Merit from Engineering News-Record

Groundwater Remediation Projects Earns Award of Merit for Annual Project of the Year Awards for the New York Region

Conti Federal Services, a leading U.S. government construction and engineering firm specializing in environmental remediation as well as military, critical infrastructure and secure construction projects, has been named a winner in Engineering News Record (ENR) New York’s 2022 Best Project Awards, in the water/environment category. The award is for a groundwater remediation project in Hopewell Junction, New York where more than 300 homes and businesses successfully gained access to clean water after a nearby Superfund site had contaminated their private wells.

The $32.8 million project included construction of a state-of-the-art 200 gallon-per-minute pump station, 310,000-gallon prestressed concrete water storage tank, connecting 322 properties to the new water source, as well disconnecting and decommissioning existing wells at each property.

Conti Federal overcame significant obstacles, from the coordination and cooperation of residents to COVID-19 related suspensions mandated by the EPA and local government, which extended over 4 months. The magnitude of the scope of work was incredibly unique for the project. With over 300 individual properties that needed inspections, Conti Federal communicated and coordinated with each property owner to determine the entry point of the new water service line and the connection to the existing plumbing system.

“Community relations and stakeholder management are always key, but especially so on a job like this where we are delivering a basic need and doing so while working at private residences,” explains former Conti Federal Program Manager Andrew Weber, PMP. “Clean water is more than a utility, it’s a necessity, and this project ensures that Hopewell Junction will have a safe supply for many, many years.”
